Its been a while now since Blackberry10 got released and I’ve been using it since the launch date on Jan 30. Many have been waiting for the review but I had to take my time with the device using it as my daily driver to know how much usage it can take before starting to freeze and run out of memory space and now I can honestly publish my review.
As I mentioned many times before and we all know that its a totally new Blackberry device (Hardware & software wise) unlike the old generation and in my opinion it finally puts Blackberry back into the competition, so lets start with specs and Im not gonna go into all the specs but if you want to check the full Z10 specs click HERE. The Z10 is powered by a dual core Snap Dragon S4 & 2 GB of RAM which from a hardware prescriptive is a performance BEAST and I can vow for it. Multi-Tasking is incredibly fast no hang ups or slowness what so ever thanks to the S4 & the 2 GB of RAM.
I remember when I arrived from Dubai after attending the Blackberry10 Launch event and my friend came to pick me up from the airport, the first thing he said to Come on show it to me I wanna see it & as he held the Z10 in his hands he got so amazed by the form factor and how it felt in the hands. Personally I had the same feeling when I first got it, usually htc & Apple rulled the market for the best build quality but the Z10 really now on par with the iPhone & the htc One X build quality, it felt good in the hand with the right amount of weight not too heavy nor too light.
The Z10 comes with a 4.2″ screen and since I upgraded almost a year ago to the htc One X I really liked the 4.7″ screen rather than the 3.5″ iPhone 4 but sometimes it felt too big in my jeans especially coz i carry 2 phones now i came to realize that between the 2.8″ Bold, 3.5″ iPhone, 4.7″ htc One X & 4.8″ Galaxy S3 the 4.2″ is the best for a day to day use not too small nor too big to hold and easy on the eyes for viewing videos & reading. The screen has 1280×720 and a pixel density of 356 which leads to a higher resolution than the iPhone retina display.
The camera of the Z10 is an 8 MP with flash & a time shift feature which helps you catch the right moment before someone blinks. Its really useful in a group photo coz there is always someone not smiling or blinking when everyone else is not :p . Comparing the Camera to previous Blackberrys its more than great but compared to the iPhone 5, htc One X or Galaxy S3 its good but not great.
One of the things I really fell in love since I started using the Z10 is the Active frame feature, it keeps your 8 latest apps open so you may switch easily between them. Its true multi tasking unlike Android & iOS where you waste a couple of seconds waiting for the app to open. I found myself switching so often between my latest apps it truly made me feel that Im spending less time getting things done.
My next favorite thing in BB10 is the Blackberry Hub or some may call it a unified inbox for Emails, Twitter, Calls, Messages & BBM. Whats really cool about the Hub is the ability to check all your messages, emails, tweets & BBM and reply or compose without the need of opening another app, it really adds to the productivity factor. I often find myself replying to emails, tweets & BBMs much much faster than I used to do on other platforms, think of it for a second you are gonna loose some seconds opening your email app to check that important email then closing it to go to twitter to reply on a mention & the cycle goes on and on opening and closing while on the BB Hub you are just a swipe away from checking your message and replying without the need of going into another app.
Things that you need to know about BB10 and many have been asking about, you dont need a special Blackberry subscription plan from your mobile provider in-order to use BBM and any feature on the device unless you are using an enterprise email & I think no one uses in Kuwait. The other main point many have been asking about is Whatsapp & according to Whatsapp Developer Team they are committed to release their famous app soon on BB10 also Skype & Instagram. You may side load Android apps on your Z10 but not all of them may work, Whatsapp Android version is working & about Instagram I have published a temporary solution for those Instagram addicts out there and you may check it ————–> HERE.
The main disadvantage that the Z10 suffers from is the lack of Apps in their store although it may contain more than 70,000 Apps which by the way is an impressive number for a new OS. We have reach a point in our mobile life where apps play an essential role in our day to day use and we keep downloading an app or 2 everyday. Keep in mind its a new OS and I remember the days when I first started using Android in its early days and more and more apps kept developing till we reached a point now where Android and iOS has the largest number of apps. I dont really wanna call it a disadvantage but for the time being it is but with developers support I really have high hopes and believe Blackberry can gain a huge market share again.
Finally a small feature that I always find important is the speaker location most mobile like the S3 have their speakers on the back side which muffles the sound only the iPhone had its speakers on the bottom side and now the Z10’s speakers are on the bottom side. This simple feature can be negligible by some but I think its the perfect position to have a clear sound.
The giant has awaken, finally after the long long wait for the latest OS from blackberry have been revealed on Jan 30th. BB10 the new competitor in the smart mobile market will try to dominate the market as it predecessor did few years ago. I got an invitation from Blackberry ( formally known as RIM ) to attend the launch of Blackberry 10 in Dubai. The international launch of Blackberry 10 was in 6 different countries around the world through a video live feed all in the same time & Dubai was the middle east’s city of choice. The event started in Armani Hotel with Robert Bose the managing director for the middle east welcoming us and introducing Thorsten Heins Blackberry’s CEO to reveal Blackberry 10 to us.
Of course most of you have been following my live event update through twitter, Instagram & Tumblr and im gonna go through the most things and more details are coming up in another BB10 review post.
Now lets get back to the main attraction the Blackberry 10, Mr.Heins first announced that RIM have renamed themselves to become BLACKBERRY, then he revealed the new Re-designed, Re-engineered and Re-invented and i must add Revolutionary Blackberry Z10 ( An all touch screen handset ) & Blackberry Q10 ( The legendary keyboard form-factor handset Blackberry famous for).
First we got introduced to the main feature that all Blackberry 10 users gonna be using which is the Blackberry Hub, it gathers all the emails, BBM, SMS, Twitter, Facebook, Calendar events in one place to maximize the user productivity. Gathering all the notifications in one place and woking all the time in the background to keep the user updated and undistracted by having to check one place which is the Blackberry Hub rather than having to check multiple apps.
Now BBM users can contact each other using video calls & of course voice calls which got introduced in Blackberry OS7. Adding to the BBM video call a screen share option in my opinion is gonna be so useful for some of us and Im so positive that Ill end up using it especially when guiding someone to what they should do to achieve a certain task on their device.
Blackberry 10 is launching with over 70,000 application and its a huge number of apps for a new OS considering the fact that it just launched while in compare with Windows Mobile 8 that launched lat year with only 20,000 apps so 70,000 is a great number to start up with and keep you moving. Another important features that was announced is the Camera which is an 8 MP with a Time shift that enables you to catch that perfect moment before the person closes his eyes or the right moment when he/she is smiling. check the video below to get an idea about it.
The surprise of the event was that Blackberry made Alicia Keys Global Creative Director for Blackberry of course Alicia Keys were a blackberry user for many years.
Many new features have been announced but i wont go into the details of each of coz thats another post you would have to wait for 😉 but i cant end a post without mentioning the new Blackberry keyboard with an awesome prediction and the ability to learn your own words as you type. At the end of the video live feed we headed out to try Blackberry Z10 device that was available for us. I compared it with the Galaxy S3 & iPhone 5 sizes on the images down below (Of course special thanks for PinkGirlQ8 for the pics ) the Z10 feels really great in the hand not so big neither small with the perfect weight of 138 Grams which adds a premium feel to it.
Now for the main question most of our readers are asking is when its gonna be available and how much would it cost?
Its gonna be available in UAE starting Feb 10th and of course in kuwait by mid or end of Feb. The exact Z10 price for Kuwait was not revealed but its going to be between 180-200 KD Black or white.
As for the Q10 is gonna be available in the second quarter (No exact date was revealed also).
Special Thanks to Blackberry for the invitation & Bensirri for organising everything in Kuwait
Ubuntu just announced their newest operating system for mobiles, for those unfamiliar with Ubuntu its Linux. Check the video above taking into consideration that this is an early version of the OS for developers & not so stable or responsive.
I’m really excited since they revealed it yesterday but there is only one problem, its gonna be available on 2014.
Its been along time since RIM released any new updates on Blackberry 10 and my bbm list is almost empty, people are migrating to Android & iPhones and ditching their Blackberry. RIM have been working so hard on their newest software and most importantly trying to lure developers, im so optimistic about Blackberry 10 although loyal blackberry users are getting less and less but from a tech point of view RIM have nothing to loose right now and they have been learning from iOS & Android mistakes whether they can pull it off or not thats a different story but im sure that RIM is gonna be more successful than Windows 8.
Mobile market have reach a point prior to maturity and still there is alot of room for improvements. Ive been following Blackberry 10 news and updates for along time and i believe they are going the right way but they lack the support from developer, its not a secret that the success of any new operating system or mobile OS is the amount of apps developed from it. Check the video down below to feed your curiosity about Blackberry 10.
For those who remember webOS must notice the resemblance between Blackberry 10 and webOS which got killed thanks to hp. Its too early now to review or speculate on the future of RIM but needless to say that Blackberry 10 is something that will join the competition of Android, iOS & Windows. I’ll leave you with the latest leaked photo of Blackberry 10 device.
Yesterday marked the preview of Windows 8 for mobile & of course the never ending war between Apple & Microsoft. Microsoft trying to take on Siri with their newest voice recognition software & no matter how hard i try to make myself believe that Windows could make a comeback the thought of errors and lags never left my mind. Check out the video and you will definitely know how Microsoft Siri embarrassed then by not responding to the first voice command
Yesterday htc have released their newest family member the One X. I’m not gonna review it or anything this post is just some random thought on what to expect & what could happen in the mobile market.
First of all just to get this out of the way it’s not an iPhone killer but it will sure dominate the android mobile devices. htc is not an easily company to compete with although for the past 2 years they have been fiddling around after the fall of Windows mobile OS & the unstableness of the first Android generation still they held their position in the mobile race. just a simple example the htc Sensation was one of best Android devices in the market but people ran towards Samsung coz of the brand name while in fact when it comes to smart phones htc is a much bigger name but unfortunately alot of people don’t know that.
Any way back to the One X sets the bar way high for Android devices with a quad core QUAD CORE processor an 8 Mpixl camera plus a Dr.Beats sound capabilities, this device should have been called the Beast not One X. If your a music fan it serves you needs, if you are more into photography it’s will amaze you plus a gigantic processor to keep things smooth & interactive.
If you are looking for an Android device or thinking to upgrade you Android my advice, don’t ever miss this One X & don’t let the name fool you htc is a huge company & I believe it’s gonna be the best selling Android phone after a while & might even take a good market share out of Apple (not much but still a good percentage).
Good news to all Blackberry fans out there, the BlackBerry 9380 all touch Curve in now available in Kuwait 🙂 Some may have ask whats the difference between it & the Curve 9360 well the answer is simple the 9380 curve is an all touch berry. Basically RIM just wanted to satisfy all tastes so whether u wanted to buy a touch screen phone without a keyboard or if u just wanna stick to the classic design of the famous BlackBerry all of that without having to spend a huge amount of money.
This sleek and stylish new smartphone continues to deliver the powerful social experiences, ease-of-use and smaller handset size that distinguish the BlackBerry Curve family, while also offering Curve users the choice of a larger display and an all-touch design.
The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is powered by the new BlackBerry 7 OS, which delivers a faster and richer user experience. It also includes the ability to manage personal content separately from corporate content, and comes with a variety of personal and productivity apps out of the box.
